The Swiss dual education system was presented and discussed

Within the framework of the “Modernizing Vocational Education and Training in Agriculture in Armenia” (MAVETA) project from 27 June till 7 July Strategic Development Agency (SDA) NGO together with “School of Agriculture, Forest and Food Sciences of the Bern University of Applied sciences” (HAFL), conducted workshops with the directors and teachers of Berd State Multifunctional College, Stepanavan and Goris State Agricultural colleges, Sisian branch of the Armenian National Agrarian University and Edjmiatsin State Preliminary College. The private sector representatives in the agricultural sector in the North and South of Armenia also participated.

The aim of the workshops was to present the dual education system of Switzerland and discuss future opportunities and constrains of implementation in Armenia. As a result, ideas were generated, based on which future interventions will be planned.

RA Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan paid an official visit to Syunik to get acquainted with the process of sustainable pasture management

On June 21, the RA Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan paid an official visit to Syunik to get acquainted with the processes and methods of sustainable pasture management in the region. The visit was organized by the initiative of the Program Coordination Platform for Sustainable Management of RA’s Natural Fodder Areas: Pastures and Grasslands.

The purpose of the Minister’s visit was to get familiar with the tools needed for sustainable pasture management, the frequency of existing pasture management plans’ application in the communities, the infrastructures created within the “Second Community Agricultural Resource Management and Competitiveness” (CARMAC 2) project, as well as “Livestock Development in the South of Armenia” and “Livestock Development in Armenia: South-North” projects implemented by the “Strategic Development Agency” NGO.

During the visit, the Minister was introduced to the achievements and opportunities of creating added values for the communities, registered as a result of sustainable pasture management. The Minister also visited Syunik Animal Market located in Khot rural settlement, where he was introduced to the activities implemented, the projects, as well as the upcoming plans.

Gender training for staff members

From 16-17 June, “Strategic Development Agency” NGO organized a gender training to enrich the knowledge and skills of its staff for integrating gender mainstreaming approaches in the implemented projects.

During the two-day training, participants learned through group work activities the skills of incorporating a gender component into the projects and filling in the appropriate questionnaires developed for data collection.

During active discussions, the participants touched upon the concept of gender, gender stereotypes, gender socialization, and gender roles.

Conference dedicated to the “World Food Safety Day”

By the initiative of the RA Food Safety Inspection Body a conference dedicated to the World Food Safety Day was organized on 7th of June with the support of the “Livestock Development in Armenia. South-North 2 program” implemented by Strategic Development Agency NGO. The event was attended by the representatives of state and local self-government bodies, educational institutions, international and non-governmental organizations. The conference was held in an active question and discussion mode.

The participants of the event, responsible for food safety, made a welcoming speech, emphasizing the importance of food safety not only in the context of improving the health of the population, but also in the context of ensuring the food security of the country.

Taking into consideration the role of veterinarians in ensuring food safety at all stages “from field to fork” chain, this year the event was also attended by veterinarians from the National Association of Veterinarians.

The veterinarian of the “Strategic Development Agency” NGO Mikayel Haykuni and the member of the “National Association of Veterinarians” NGO, veterinarian Sergey Chakhmakhchyan presented the importance of the veterinarians’ role and functions for insuring the food safety.

Official equipment hand-over ceremony at the USS State Employment Department

Within the framework of the Reconomy “Skills, Knowledge and Intermediation Development” pilot project Strategic Development Agency (SDA) NGO has been cooperating with the Unified Social Service (USS) of the RA Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs since 2021.

Between 2021-2022, a number of activities and events were implemented in order to improve the capacity and skills of the USS staff, as well as to strengthen the relationship between the employers and the beneficiaries, particularly unemployed women and youth.

By taking into consideration the latest technological and modern innovations, SDA NGO, within the frameworks of the pilot project, provided 15 computers, a professional camera, as well as other equipment that will contribute to the improvement of the quality of the USS services.

The official equipment hand-over ceremony took place at the USS State Employment Department, where SDA NGO project manager Ms. Lilit Hovhannisyan and USS deputy secretary-general Mr. Ashot Arshakyan signed bilateral contracts. The event was also attended by Ms. Tamara Torosyan, Deputy Head of USS, and other representatives of the department.
