Meeting with Karen Sargsyan, the Governor of Gegharkunik Region

On July 19, an official meeting took place between the team of the “Livestock Development in Armenia: South-North 2” project and Karen Sargsyan, the Governor of Gegharkunik Region. The “Livestock Development in Armenia: South-North 2” Project is implemented by “Strategic Development Agency” NGO and financed by the Austrian Development Agency, the operational unit of Austrian Development Cooperation. During the meeting, the project team presented the mission of “Strategic Development Agency” NGO and implemented projects and activities. The purpose of the meeting was to present to the governor of Gegharkunik the “Livestock Development in Armenia: South-North 2” project, the activities to be carried out within the project, the geography of the selected target communities and settlements, the schedule of planned project interventions, as well as to discuss the upcoming activities. Due to the fact that “Livestock Development in Armenia: South-North 2” project is a logical continuation of the “Livestock Development in Armenia: South-North” project, during the meeting, the achievements recorded within the framework of the previous project were also discussed.

Karen Sargsyan, the Governor of Gegharkunik Region, emphasized the importance of the project’s implementation in the region, by offering the support of the Regional Administration Office in spreading the information about the project and organizing planned activities. The governor expressed his satisfaction for the implemented and planned projects and suggested to cooperate with the relevant department of the governor’s office in order to act more efficiently.

Equipping students of “Youth Entrepreneurship Academy” with entrepreneurial knowledge and skills

On July 13 and 14, 2022, a meeting-discussion was held at the Gyumri branch of the “Strategic Development Agency” NGO with the attendees of the “Youth Entrepreneurship Academy” preparatory course initiated by the “Women for Development” NGO. The purpose of the meeting was to give the entrepreneurial knowledge and skills to the young people from the beneficiary communities. The meeting aimed to help young people to discover the secrets of the industry, develop business ideas and later implement them.

The young people from Ashotsk, former Sarapat, Artik communities of Shirak region were introduced to the activities of the “Strategic Development Agency” NGO, the works done and planned to be done, success stories of young entrepreneurs were presented, informational materials prepared by the NGO were distributed.

The business/agribusiness ideas implemented by young people were discussed, as well as the possibility to implement social entrepreneurial ideas in rural communities were addressed.

The Swiss dual education system was presented and discussed

Within the framework of the “Modernizing Vocational Education and Training in Agriculture in Armenia” (MAVETA) project from 27 June till 7 July Strategic Development Agency (SDA) NGO together with “School of Agriculture, Forest and Food Sciences of the Bern University of Applied sciences” (HAFL), conducted workshops with the directors and teachers of Berd State Multifunctional College, Stepanavan and Goris State Agricultural colleges, Sisian branch of the Armenian National Agrarian University and Edjmiatsin State Preliminary College. The private sector representatives in the agricultural sector in the North and South of Armenia also participated.

The aim of the workshops was to present the dual education system of Switzerland and discuss future opportunities and constrains of implementation in Armenia. As a result, ideas were generated, based on which future interventions will be planned.

RA Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan paid an official visit to Syunik to get acquainted with the process of sustainable pasture management

On June 21, the RA Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan paid an official visit to Syunik to get acquainted with the processes and methods of sustainable pasture management in the region. The visit was organized by the initiative of the Program Coordination Platform for Sustainable Management of RA’s Natural Fodder Areas: Pastures and Grasslands.

The purpose of the Minister’s visit was to get familiar with the tools needed for sustainable pasture management, the frequency of existing pasture management plans’ application in the communities, the infrastructures created within the “Second Community Agricultural Resource Management and Competitiveness” (CARMAC 2) project, as well as “Livestock Development in the South of Armenia” and “Livestock Development in Armenia: South-North” projects implemented by the “Strategic Development Agency” NGO.

During the visit, the Minister was introduced to the achievements and opportunities of creating added values for the communities, registered as a result of sustainable pasture management. The Minister also visited Syunik Animal Market located in Khot rural settlement, where he was introduced to the activities implemented, the projects, as well as the upcoming plans.

Gender training for staff members

From 16-17 June, “Strategic Development Agency” NGO organized a gender training to enrich the knowledge and skills of its staff for integrating gender mainstreaming approaches in the implemented projects.

During the two-day training, participants learned through group work activities the skills of incorporating a gender component into the projects and filling in the appropriate questionnaires developed for data collection.

During active discussions, the participants touched upon the concept of gender, gender stereotypes, gender socialization, and gender roles.
