The workshop on ” Sustainable management of RA’s Natural Fodder Areas: pastures and grasslands, exchange of experience, and the discussion of lessons learned” was organized

On 16th of April, the workshop on “Sustainable management of RA’s Natural Fodder Areas: pastures and grasslands, exchange of experience, and the discussion of lessons learned” was organized at the Olympia Hotel (address: Armenia, 3701, Vayots Dzor region, Yerevan, Jermuk, Shahumyan str. 1, 16 house).

The representatives of the Ministry of Economy of RA and heads of the enlarged communities of RA participated in the workshop.

At the beginning of the event, Ira Panosyan, the Head of the Department of Agricultural Programs Elaboration, Resource Use and Cooperative Development of the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Armenia and Mkrtich Ayvazyan, chairman of the Strategic Development Agency (SDA) NGO greeted the participants and wished a fruitful work.

Ira Panosyan pointed the importance of the “Livestock Development in the South of Armenia” and “Livestock Development in Armenia: South-North” projects implemented by “Strategic Development Agency” (SDA) NGO and expressed hope that the project would contribute to the better and more sustainable pasture management.

During the workshop, mapping of pastures and grasslands of Armenia initiative, the guideline on “Measures to be taken for the care, monitoring, restoration and conservation of pasture infrastructure” as well as the activities aiming to ensure the access of pastures, sustainable pasture management and lessons learned in frames of the “Livestock Development in the South of Armenia” and “Livestock Development in Armenia: South-North” projects were presented.

Meeting with the heads of communities and leading specialists from Amasia and Azatan communities of RA Shirak Region

From 1st-2nd of April, 2021 a community meeting was held with the heads of communities and leading specialists of Amasia and Azatan communities of Shirak marz of the Republic of Armenia within the framework of ‘’Introducing pasture and grassland maps for sustainable pasture and grasslands management practices in Lori and Shirak marzes of Armenia’’ pilot project. The purpose of the meeting was to find out the expectations and the requirements of the target and non-target communities regarding the layout and the content of the digital maps.

The project is financed by the GIZ ECOSERVE Project, with co-financing from the “Livestock Development in the South of Armenia” project implemented by “Strategic Development Agency” NGO with financial support of Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation

The aim of the pilot project is to develop an institutional framework for the use of digital maps based on the needs and requirements of communities. Which will become the basis for the usage of the maps, available to the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure in all communities of the Republic of Armenia. The kick-off meeting of the pilot project took place on February 16, 2021, during which the assessment was carried out to identify the technical capabilities of the community and the capacities of Amasia community’s specialists to use the digital maps.

Awareness-raising campaign “Preserve the pasture, protect the future of our children”

On 24th of March, 2021, target enlarged communities of Tavush, Gegharkunik, Lori and Shirak marzes launched an awareness-raising campaign under the slogan “Let’s preserve our pasture to protect the future of our children” on the benefits of sustainable pasture management. The awareness-raising campaign is organized in frames of “Livestock Development in Armenia: south-north” Project is implemented by “Strategic Development Agency” NGO and financed by the Austrian Development Agency, the operational unit of Austrian Development Cooperation and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.

This campaign aims to create the culture of environmental protection, reasonable and safe use of natural resources, in particular the pastures among the local population. This, in turn, will contribute to the implementation of sustainable pasture management principles and the efficient organization of pasture use, will reduce the negative impact of hectic livestock farming on pasture ecosystems, and will increase farmers’ income through the improved livestock productivity.

During the campaign, special events are planned for children to increase their interest and level of knowledge about the need to preserve pastures, as well as to promote the sense of responsibility for the environment.

Training courses on “Facilitation” and “Business Communication Ethics”

From 22nd -24th and 25th -26th of March, 2021 Strategic Development Agency (SDA) NGO within the framework of “VET Development in Syunik Marz” project organized two training courses on “Facilitation” and “Business Communication Ethics” with the engagement of the students and teachers from Goris State Agricultural College after Professor Kh. Yeritsyan and Sisian Branch of the Armenian National Agrarian University.

The mentioned project is being implemented by SDA NGO in partnership with HAFL (The School of Agricultural, Forest and Food Sciences of the Bern University of Applied Sciences) and with the support of Swiss Church Aid (HEKS/EPER).

The training course on “Facilitation”, which was aimed at developing the participants’ facilitation skills and knowledge on the concept of “facilitation”, the role of the facilitator, tools and approaches to manage facilitation process, was attended by 13 lecturers.

The training course on “Business Communication Ethics”, aiming to improve business communication skills of the students and teachers through effective business conversation and writing was attended by 15 students and lecturers from the above-mentioned institutions.
