“Mozzarella cheese making technology” training for beneficiary milk processors and cheese making experts

On May 3-4 “Mozzarella cheese-making technology” training and master class was conducted within the framework of the project “Livestock Development in Armenia: South-North 2” implemented by the “Strategic Development Agency” NGO. The training was conducted in “Rozi – 1” AC in Khachaghbyur rural settlement by the experienced cheese-making expert Mr. Catrinus van der Sluis, who was invited from the Netherlands by “PUM Netherlands Senior Experts” Organization. Project beneficiary milk processors and cheese-making experts participated in the training.

During the 2-day training, the participants gained necessary theoretical knowledge about the general technological process of mozzarella cheese production and all components of cheesemaking.

The main purpose of the meeting was to strengthen the capacities in real working conditions and create new products that will be competitive in both local and foreign markets.

The project “Livestock Development in Armenia: South-North 2” is funded by the Austrian Development Agency the operational unit of the Austrian Development Cooperation.

Meetings with potential beneficiaries of the “Living Landscapes for Market Development in Armenia” project

On April 27-29 representatives of the Strategic Development Agency NGO visited  Debet, Yeghegnut, Margahovit villages of Lori region in the frameworks of the “Living Landscapes for Market Development in Armenia” project. During the visit our representatives held individual meetings and discussions with local potential beneficiaries, as well as the head of administrative district of Debet village A. Sahakyan.

The aim of the visits was to meet potential beneficiaries personally, listen to their ideas and plans, and discuss perspectives of sustainable tourism promotion in their communities.

The Project is implemented by the Strategic Development Agency and WWF Armenia with the financial support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.

International Veterinary Day was celebrated in Armenia

Since 2019, the International Veterinary Day has been celebrated in Armenia at the state level on the initiative of the RA Food Safety Inspection Body with the financial support of “Strategic Development Agency” NGO. The event took place this year as well, on April 29, within the framework of the conference entitled “Animal Health is Our Health”. It is symbolic that the International Veterinary Day will be commemorated in Armenia on the last Friday of April, based on the amendments made by the Government of the Republic of Armenia to the Law on “Holidays and Remembrance Days of the Republic of Armenia”.

More than 200 invitees were present at the event, including veterinarians, experts from the food safety, health, and education sectors, representatives from local and international organizations, and many other guests.

Greetings, congratulatory messages, and speeches on the veterinary sector, food safety, and one health were delivered during the conference.

The head of FSIB Georgi Avetisyan and RA Deputy Minister of Economy Tigran Gabrielyan handed letters of gratitude to a number of experts in the field for their conscientious work and dedication to the profession.

Meetings with the stakeholders of “Living Landscapes for Market Development in Armenia” project

From February 2-3, 2022, meeting-discussions were organized in target marzes of Lori, Tavush and Vayots Dzor within the framework of the “Living Landscapes for Market Development in Armenia” project, implemented by the WWF Caucasus in Armenia (WWF-Armenia) in partnership with Strategic Development Agency NGO and financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). During the meetings, the representatives of WWF-Armenia and SDA NGO introduced the main results of the initial phase “Living Landscapes for Market Development in Armenia” project.

Project geography, selected settlements, project main phase duration intervention directions were discussed with project stakeholders (representatives of regional authorities & target rural settlements etc.).

Practical exchange visits for knowledge improvement, mutual cooperation and professional development

Within the framework of the farmers’ capacities and skills development component of the “Livestock Development in the South of Armenia” project, during November of 2021, two practical exchange visits were carried out in order to improve knowledge, mutual cooperation, and professional connections.

Two different groups of farmers took part in the practical visits: a total of 66 women and young farmers from 15 settlements of Syunik and Vayots Dzor marzes, in particular, from 37 farmers from 8 settlements of Syunik (Bnunis, Ashotavan, Balak, Mutsk, Ltsen, Vorotan, Lor, Brnakot) and 29 farmers from 7 settlements of Dzor (Kechut, Khndzorut, Artavan, Gomq, Martiros, Yelpin).

The farmers visited ta lead farm in the Margahovit settlement of the Lori region, observed the conditions of the barn built with innovative approaches.

The presence of purebred animals and the discussions on productivity made the efficiency of farming more visible. Fodder production is essential for the proper management of livestock. Features of nutrition that have a direct impact on productivity were highlighted. Various fodder rations and technological steps for the cultivation of possible high-value fodder crops were discussed.

The visits were followed by a training course on “Entrepreneurship Capacity Development”, which included detailed, interactive discussions, games, and exercises.

Farmers were provided with booklets and brochures on various spheres of cattle breeding.
