Conference dedicated to International Veterinarians’ Day

On April 28, the conference dedicated to the International Veterinarian Day was held, during which the welcoming speeches were made by representatives of the RA government, regional universities, international and local organizations.

Head of  Food Safety Inspection Body of The Republic of Armenia, Armen Hayrapetyan greeted all those present, congratulated the veterinarians on their professional day.

Following Armen Hayrapetyan, The Deputy Minister of Economy Ashkhen Shirvanyan, Deputy regional director of Swiss Cooperation South Caucasus and deputy head of mission Werner Thut and the chairman of Strategic Development Agency NGO Mkrtich Ayvazyan delivered welcoming speeches.

It is already the fourth year that the International Day of Veterinarians is celebrated at the state level in Armenia.

This year, the event is organized by the initiative of the RA Food Safety Inspection Body with the support of “Modernizing Vocational Education and Training in Agriculture in Armenia” (MAVETA) project implemented by Strategic Development Agency NGO.

During the conference, questions related to the spread, prevention and treatment of various diseases related to animals, as well as the need to introduce modern methods in the field were presented.

During the event, a film was shown on the importance of the veterinary profession and the existing challenges. On the occasion of Veterinarian Day, the certificates of appreciation were given to veterinarians who contributed to the field.

The MAVETA project is funded by a broad coalition of international and local organizations led by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), including the Austrian Development Agency, the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Government of Armenia, the Swiss Church Aid (HEKS/EPER) NGO, Izmirlian Foundation, the Strategic Development Agency (SDA) NGO and Vanand Agro CJSC.

The project’s implementing partners are the GIZ and HEKS/EPER with the involvement of SDA and the School of Agricultural, Forest and Food Sciences at the Bern University of Applied Sciences (HAFL).

The steering committee meeting was organized within the framework of the “Livestock Development in Armenia: South-North 2” project

On April 27, the steering committee meeting was organized within the framework of the “Livestock Development in Armenia: South-North 2” project implemented by Strategic Development Agency (SDA) NGO and financed by the Austrian Development Agency, the operational unit of the Austrian Development Cooperation. The steering committee meeting was attended by Ashkhen Shirvanyan, Deputy Minister of Economy of RA, Ashot Giloyan, Head of the Local Government Department of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Development of Armenia, Nora Alanakyan, Deputy Director of Austrian Development Agency (ADA), representatives of RA Syunik, Gegharkunik, and Shirak regional

administrations and as well as representatives of the project beneficiary communities. At the steering committee meeting, the results recorded within the framework of the project and the upcoming planned actions were discussed.

The steering committee meeting started with the welcoming speech of Ashkhen Shirvanyan, Deputy Minister of Economy of RA, who thanked the Austrian Development Agency for financing the project and emphasized the partnership formed between the Ministry of Economy of RA and “Strategic Development Agency” NGO.

Mr Giloyan, Head of the Local Government Department of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Development of Armenia, in his speech, noted that there are occasions when it’s vital to solve issues by mobilizing the resources of the community, and that’s why the presence of community leaders on this meeting is very crucial.

During the event, the project manager Vahe Hovhannisyan presented the implemented project interventions and existing obstacles.

The outcomes of the project and the upcoming planned actions were discussed with the stakeholders during the steering committee meeting.

Practical training on fodder production and pasture management organized for the partners of the related sector from Syunik region

From 19-21 April 2023, within the framework of “Modernizing Vocational Education and Training in Agriculture in Armenia” (MAVETA) project, practical training on fodder production and pasture management was organized by Strategic Development Agency NGO for the partners of the related sector from Syunik region.

The workshop was conducted by foreign expert Stefan Dubach.

Workshop dedicated to the agriculture of Syunik region, opportunities, problems and perspectives of the sector

On April 21, the workshop “TOGETHER FOR SYUNIK – AGRICULTURE” was held in Goris, which was attended by more than 40 representatives of international and local organizations. At the workshop, Vahe Hovhannisyan and Lilit Hovhannisyan, representatives of the “Strategic Development Agency” NGO, presented in details the “Livestock Development in Armenia: South-North 2” and “Modernization of Vocational Education and Training in Armenia” (MAVETA) projects implemented in Syunik region.

The purpose of organizing the workshop was to exclude the overlapping of project activities and to promote cooperation between different projects implemented in Syunik Region of RA. During the workshop, the work done aiming to develop the agricultural and the ongoing and planned projects were presented and discussed.

The heads of the communities also referred to the agricultural potential of their communities, the possible directions that can be developed in different settlements, and thanked the organizations for investments.

Practical training on fodder production and pasture management for the partners in Lori

From 18-19 April 2023, within the framework of “Modernizing Vocational Education and Training in Agriculture in Armenia” (MAVETA) project, practical training on fodder production and pasture management for the partners in Lori was organized by the Strategic Development Agency NGO for the teachers of Stepanavan State Agricultural College. The workshop was conducted by foreign expert Stefan Dubach.

As a result of the training, the participants were able to:

  • recognize the key factors for cheese production from unpasteurized milk and its implication for
  • pasture and meadows
  • identify the needs and challenges of Armenian pastures and meadow
  • plan a graded management of pastures and meadows
  • recognize the connection between the intensity of use and fertilization of a meadow
  • identify the relationship between feeding and breeding
