Seminar on apprenticeship assessment within the framework of MAVETA project

On November 7-10, within the framework of “Modernizing Vocational Education and Training in Agriculture in Armenia” (MAVETA) project the “Strategic Development Agency” NGO organized a seminar on the development and filling of the diaries during apprenticeship and the assessment criteria for apprentices.

The seminar was conducted by the Swiss expert Astrid Schmidt.

The aim of the training was to familiarize college milk and dairy technology teachers and private sector mentors with the format of diaries filled by apprentices, discuss the procedure for filling and checking diaries and evaluating apprentices.

“Modernizing Vocational Education and Training in Agriculture in Armenia” (MAVETA) project is funded by a broad coalition of international and local organizations led by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), including the Austrian Development Agency, the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Government of Armenia, the Swiss Church Aid (HEKS/EPER) NGO, Izmirlian Foundation, the “Strategic Development Agency” (SDA) NGO and Vanand Agro CJSC.

The project’s implementing partners are the GIZ and HEKS/EPER with the involvement of SDA and the School of Agricultural, Forest and Food Sciences at the Bern University of Applied Sciences (HAFL).

Workshop on “Dual education piloting in VET system” was organized for the MAVETA project partners

On November 2-3, within the framework of “Modernizing Vocational Education and Training in Agriculture in Armenia” (MAVETA) project, a workshop on “Dual education piloting in VET system” was held.

The partners of “MAVETA” project: representatives of private companies, VET institutions and experts actively involved in the field, participated in the workshop.

During the workshop, Yulia Stakyan, Programme TVET Expert of “Private Sector Development and Technical Vocational Education and Training South Caucasus” project at GIZ introduced the methodology of the dual VET implementation and the features of the occupation profile’s development.

In the working groups, the participants discussed the structure of the curricula for three newly introduced professions: agricultural machinery, milk farm manager, orchard workers of the nut and fruit farms, and developed the role and occupation profiles for these professions.

At the workshop, the methods and importance of combining the theoretical and practical training elements of the above mentioned professions were discussed, as well as the ways of creating the appropriate environment and conditions for the apprentice at the employer.

Training on “Pedigree Management” was organized for the representatives of large livestock farming households

On October 27-28, with the support of the Ministry of Economy of RA and the two projects implemented by  the “Strategic Development Agency” NGO: “Livestock Development in Armenia: South-North 2” and “Modernizing Vocational Education and Training in Agriculture in Armenia” (MAVETA) projects a training was organized on the topic “Pedigree Management”.

The purpose of the training was to introduce farmers with the format of initial livestock registration and the principles of high-value pedigree registration, as well as the state support programs implemented in the livestock sector and the procedure for applying to them. The training was attended by the representatives of large livestock farming households from Syunik, Lori, Tavush, Gegharkunik and Shirak marzes of RA.

The training was started by the welcoming speech of the Deputy Minister of Economyof  RA, Mrs. Ashkhen Shirvanyan, who thanked the participants and the “Strategic Development Agency” NGO for supporting the initiatives related to the livestock sector. Mrs. Shirvanyan spoke about the necessity of this training  and expressed hope that this training will contribute to increasing the number of pedigree animals in Armenia.

Mkrtich Ayvazyan, the chairman of the “Strategic Development Agency” NGO, also delivered a welcoming speech, and noted that the organization has always kept the issues related to animal husbandry in the loop and supported their solution. “Today it is imperative to unite all the resources of private, state and international projects for development of the sector and our country,”- said Mr. Ayvazyan.

On the first day of the training, Ashot Hovhannisyan, an expert from the RA Ministry of Economy, presented to the participants the format of initial livestock registration and the process of applying for the pedigree cards.

Tatevik Sargsyan, Head of the Agricultural Animal Breeding Department of the RA Ministry of Economy, presented to the participants the state support programs implemented in the field of livestock breeding and the procedure for applying to them.

During the two-day training, the importance of women’s involvement in the field of agriculture and the promotion of their role in the development of the sector were also discussed. The training was held in an atmosphere of active discussion.

Opening ceremony of the Lead Farm established within the frameworks of “Livestock development in Armenia: South-North 2” project

On October 24, the official opening ceremony of the “Lead Farm” established in the Achanan rural settlement of Kapan enlarged community took place.

The “Lead Farm” was established within the frameworks of the project “Livestock Development in Armenia։ South-North 2”, which is financed by Austrian Development Agency the operational unit of Austrian Development Cooperation and is implemented by the “Strategic Development Agency” NGO.

The “Livestock Development in Armenia-South-North 2″ project aims to contribute to the inclusive and sustainable agricultural growth of livestock-depending rural communities in Armenia through improved productivity and enhanced competitiveness of the private sector in the domestic and export markets.

The event was attended by the Deputy Minister of Economy of RA Ms. Ashkhen Shirvanyan, Deputy Head of the Yerevan Office of the Austrian Development Agency Ms. Nora Alanakyan, representatives of Syunik Regional Administration, Kapan and Sisian enlarged communities and the project’s beneficiary farmers.

The opening ceremony of the “Lead Farm” started with the welcoming speech of Ms. Ashkhen Shirvanyan, who noted that all the initiatives aiming the development of agriculture are very important for the Ministry of Economy of RA. “On behalf of the Ministry, I’d like to express the gratitude to all those organizations that made efforts, supporting the private sector to help them properly present their activities in the field of agriculture. I thank our beneficiaries who realize the challenges in agriculture sector and continue to be engaged, by contributing to the development of this sector. We are sure that in the nearest future we will see the tangible results of the investments”- emphasised Ms Shirvanyan.

Ms. Nora Alanakyan, the Deputy Head of Yerevan Office of the Austrian Development Agency welcomed the guests and thanked all the partners who contributed to the opening of this farm and wished success to Arman Grigoryan, the founder of the Lead Farm.

Karen Balyan, the advisor to the Syunik Marz Governor, noted in his welcoming speech that this is the best example of cooperation between the government, the private sector, and the project supported by international organizations.

Gor Tadevosyan, the Deputy Head of the RA Kapan community, welcomed the guests and emphasized the importance of innovative approaches in agriculture and expressed hope that farmers from other communities will also follow this example.

The opening ceremony of the “Lead Farm” was preceded by the visit of RA Deputy Minister of Economy Ms Ashkhen Shirvanyan to the Noravan settlement. During the visit she was introduced to the pasture infrastructure established within the framework of the “Livestock Development in Armenia: South-North 2” project and met with the beneficiary farmers of the project․ The ribbon-cutting ceremony and the tour in the farm were followed by a visit to the veterinary point established in Kapan.

Experience exchange visit to the Swiss Confederation for members of the working group developing the educational curriculum for fruit and nut orchard worker

From October 15-22, within the framework of the  “Modernizing Vocational Education and Training in Agriculture in Armenia” (MAVETA) project, the  “Strategic Development Agency” NGO and the the School of Agricultural, Forest and Food Sciences at the Bern University of Applied Sciences (HAFL) organized one-week experience exchange visit to the Swiss Confederation for the working group members, developing the educational curriculum for fruit and nut orchard worker.

The visit’s main goal was to familiarize participants with the Swiss VET dual education system and curriculum development process. The participants had the chance to tour horticulture and fruit farms and learn more about the nuances of how dual education is implemented and how apprentices are included in the working operations.

During the visit, the participants of the working group also shared their experience and demonstrated the pruning of fruit trees. The participants discussed and drew parallels between the characteristics of fruit tree cultivation in Armenia and Switzerland.
