Event honoring women, involved in agriculture and contributing to the improvement and development of the sector

On April 8, the event for honoring women, involved in agriculture and contributing to the improvement and development of the sector took place at the Radisson Blu Hotel.

The event was organized by Strategic Development Agency NGO within the framework of the “Modernizing Vocational Education and Training in Agriculture in Armenia” (MAVETA) project (MAVETA) program.

The MAVETA project is funded by a broad coalition of international and local organizations led by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), including the Austrian Development Agency, the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Government of Armenia, the Swiss Church Aid (HEKS/EPER) NGO, Izmirlian Foundation, the Strategic Development Agency (SDA) NGO and Vanand Agro CJSC.

The project’s implementing partners are the GIZ and HEKS/EPER with the involvement of SDA and the School of Agricultural, Forest and Food Sciences at the Bern University of Applied Sciences (HAFL).

The purpose of the event was to promote the professions targeted by the MAVETA project, expand the involvement of women in the field, increase their role and provide an opportunity to establish connections with each other.

The event started with the welcome speech of Armenuhi Poghosyan, Head of the Department of Primary (Craftsmanship) and Vocational Education of the RA Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, who emphasized the role of education in the development of agriculture and presented the agricultural specialties introduced by dual education within the MAVETA project, which will enable students already skilled entry into the labor market, contributing to the employability of communities.

Mrs. Poghosyan was followed by RA Deputy Minister of Economy, Tatevik Sargsyan, who emphasized the role of women in the field of agriculture and noted that most of the local products are provided by women, working in the field. “May there always be professional successes in your life, let’s continue serving the motherland and its progress honestly and unceasingly,” said Mrs. Sargsyan.

Monique Frey, the VET consultant from HEKS/EPER, presented the experience of Switzerland and the implemented programs for involving women in political and social life.

Sona Tsarukyan, the deputy head of the Food safety inspection body of the Republic of Armenia, urged young people to choose their professions by their heart.

Additionally, she proposed the inclusion of men in similar gatherings to further emphasize the significance of women in the agricultural sector.

At the event, seven women specializing in professions such as veterinary, milk and dairy technology, and farm management shared their success stories.

During the event, through a panel discussion, Melanya Karapetyan, head of the food safety department of the RA Ministry of Economy, Armenuhi Poghosyan, head of the department of primary (craftsmanship) and vocational education of the RA Ministry of education, science, culture and sports and a representative of the private sector, a female entrepreneur, the co-founder of “Lorva Kat” company Anush Sukiasyan presented and discussed the challenges for women, involved in agriculture and ways to overcome them.

Meeting was organized between “Sky Agro” LLC and Vine and Wine Foundation of Armenia

Strategic Development Agency (SDA) NGO continues to support its partners in establishing networking communications and cooperation possibilities with local organizations and companies.

On April 1, the meeting was organized between “Sky Agro” LLC (partner company within RECONOMY’s “Digitizing Sectors for Competitiveness” project) and Vine and Wine Foundation of Armenia.

During the meeting with Vine and Wine foundation of Armenia the services provided by Sky Agro were introduced and the collaboration possibilities between two organization were discussed.

“Sky Agro” employs an innovative approach, leveraging agricultural drones and skilled agricultural pilots to deliver efficient and targeted crop monitoring for accurate agricultural practices.

RECONOMY is an inclusive and green economic development program of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), implemented by HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation in partnership with Strategic Development Agency NGO and others in the Eastern Partnership and the Western Balkan regions.

Awareness-raising visits to regional schools were organized within the framework of the MAVETA project

On March 19-20, within the framework of “Modernizing Vocational Education and Training in Agriculture in Armenia” (MAVETA) program of the Strategic Development Agency NGO, Lilit Beglaryan, VET coordinator at MAVETA, Kamo Jivanyan, career officer at Stepanavan State Agricultural College, teachers paid an awareness visit to secondary schools of Tashir community, Lori Marz.

More than 150 students of the 9th grade had the opportunity to receive information about the educational process in vocational institutions, the advantages of dual education, prospects for finding jobs in case of choosing an agricultural and/or other profession.

Later, Ashot Khanumyan, a young veterinarian serving several communities in Lori Marz, presented to the students the peculiarities of the profession, his work routine and talked about the great demand for veterinarians in the current labor market.

“Sales in Hospitality and Tourism Sector” training for partners and beneficiaries of the LILA project

On March 18, the training course “Sales in Hospitality and Tourism Sector” was initiated within “Living Landscapes for Market Development in Armenia” LILA Project. The training is being conducted by Zara Zeitountsian.

The goal of the course is to develop the participants’ sales skills and knowledge, which will help them develop competitive unique selling propositions, present their tourism services effectively, increase sales and attract new target markets, as well as develop loyalty programs and retain loyal customers.

The training course will enable the participants to independently develop and implement a sales strategy, carry out sales forecasting and monitoring, independently develop B2B and B2C sales proposals and apply new and modern sales management tools.

The participants of the training highlighted the importance of this initiative, noting that similar trainings allow to exchange experience and to build new partnerships.

Partners’ networking event within the framework of “Living landscapes for market development in Armenia” (LILA) project

On March 1-2, within the framework of “Living Landscapes for Market Development in Armenia” (LILA) project Strategic Development Agency NGO organized a networking event, with the aim to support the relations’ establishment between project partners.

The LILA project is financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and implemented by the WWF Caucasus in Armenia (WWF-Armenia) in partnership with Strategic Development Agency NGO.

During the event, more than 20 memorandums of understanding were signed between Strategic Development Agency and the beneficiaries and partners of the LILA project.

The event has started the welcoming speech of Werner Thut, the Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Switzerland in Armenia, equally responsible for the Swiss Cooperation Program in Armenia. “This project is not only particularly relevant for many people and companies, your work is also transforming the face and future of Armenian tourism”, – Mr. Thut said, addressing the participants of the gathering.

During the event, the progress, achievements, goals of the LILA project and planned actions until 2025 were presented.

Participants of the event had an opportunity to get acquainted with the strategy of tourism development in Armenia, the new RA law on tourism policy related to the regional businesses and discuss the prospects of tourism development.

During the two-day event, project partners and beneficiaries presented business ideas already implemented or planned to be implemented with the support of the project.
