RECONOMY x LILA Meeting at the Tourism Committee of the RA and the Armenian Tourism Federation

As a result of the cooperation between RECONOMY’s “Digitizing Sectors for Competitiveness” and “Living Landscapes for Market Development in Armenia” (LILA) projects, Moldovan tour-operators who are in Armenia on a fam tour on April 27 had a meeting at the Tourism Committee of the Republic of Armenia.

RECONOMY’s “Digitizing Sectors for Competitiveness” Project Manager Mher Sahakyan and LILA Project Coordinator Alla Ghazaryan presented the framework of cooperation with the Moldovan side and steps towards promoting regional tourism to the Tourism Committee’s Marketing Manager Diana Karapetyan and Advisor Anahit Voskanyan.

Diana Karapetyan and Anahit Voskanyan presented the Armenian tourism results of interest to the Moldovan side and expressed their willingness for further cooperation.

Afterwards, the delegation met with Mekhak Apresyan, President of the Armenian Tourism Federation, at the Federation’s office.

Within the framework of RECONOMY’s “Digitizing Sectors for Competitiveness” project, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between Elena Stepanov , Executive Director, National Inbound and Domestic Tourism Association of Moldova (ANTRIM), and Mekhak Apresyan, President of the Armenian Tourism Federation.

IADAAM Focus Group Discussion to Identify the Needs of Farmers in Ararat Marz

Within the framework of the “Development of Irrigated Agriculture in Ararat and Armavir Regions” (IADAAM) program, a focus group discussion (FGD) was held. The target groups for the discussion were farmers from the Ararat, Artashat, and Vedi communities of Ararat marz, who are cultivating: a) land plots up to 1 hectare, b) land plots of at least 1 hectare or larger.

The FGDs were conducted with the support of IADAAM Agricultural Extension Service (AEST) Vedi and Artashat teams. The focus group survey and assessment were carried out under the supervision of Anna Sargsyan, Projects Monitoring and Evaluation Officer at the Strategic Development Agency NGO, and moderated by consultants Aram Zakaryan and Narek Avetisyan, selected from the IADAAM AEST teams.

The main goal of these focus group discussions is to identify the needs and experiences of beneficiary farmers to make the IADAAM program’s interventions more effective and to propose appropriate solutions based on the farmers’ stated priorities. IADAAM focus group discussions aim to assess the current status of advisory services provided to farmers, identify existing challenges, and understand farmers’ needs, ensuring the collection of qualitative data. A specific FGD guide had been developed and was adapted to address key sectoral issues, allowing for an in-depth analysis.

The next focus group discussion is planned to be held in Armavir region.

Irrigated Agriculture Development in Ararat and Armavir marzes (IADAAM) project, financed through the European Union (EU) with implementation by the French Development Agency (AFD) is an integrated initiative aimed at transforming irrigated agriculture in Armenia.

Within IADAAM project a technical assistance component is implemented jointly by Agriconsulting Europe S.A, Avenue Consulting Group, Strategic Development Agency NGO and 3R Strategy LLC consortium and aims to provide institutional support to the Ministry of Economy (MoE) in the formulation of agricultural policies and reforms in priority areas, provide technical support to the MoE in the implementing project activities, ensure communication and reporting for the IADAAM project.

World Veterinary Day Celebrated in Armenia

In cooperation with the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Armenia and the “Strategic Development Agency” (SDA) NGO, and with the support of the Modernizing Vocational Education and Training in Agriculture in Armenia (MAVETA) project, World Veterinary Day was celebrated in Armenia on April 26.

The conference, entitled “Veterinarians as Guarantors of Public Health and Food Safety,” was attended by the RA Minister of Economy, Gevorg Papoyan, the Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Switzerland in Armenia and Deputy Regional Director of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) in the South Caucasus, Ursula Läubli, sectoral officials from executive authorities, representatives of the  MAVETA project partner VET institutions and private sector.

Congratulating veterinarians on their professional day, Minister Gevorg Papoyan emphasized that their work is vital not only for maintaining animal health but also for safeguarding public health and food security: “Without veterinary medicine, the country’s economy simply cannot develop. Your role is crucial for our nation,” the Minister noted.

Mrs. Ursula Läubli highlighted in her remarks that the SDC’s strategic goal is to promote work-based learning in vocational education, applying best practices to the development of agricultural professions, including veterinary medicine. “We are pleased to see the high level of commitment demonstrated by our state partners, culminating in the adoption of the new Law on Vocational Education last year with MAVETA’s support. This is a significant step toward improving vocational education in Armenia,” stated Ursula Läubli.

In his speech, Mkrtich Ayvazyan, Chairman of the Strategic Development Agency (SDA) NGO, emphasized the importance of long-term support from international partners, particularly the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and the Austrian Development Agency, in implementing livestock breeding and veterinary development projects. “About 100 community veterinary points have been established, serving more than 200 settlements,” he noted.

The MAVETA project aims to modernize the sector and support a generational shift. In collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of the Republic of Armenia, a dual veterinary program has been introduced in five colleges through a dual education system. Currently, more than 120 students are enrolled in dual education programs and are beginning to join the workforce as veterinarians.

Leading representatives of the European Commission for the Control of Foot-and-Mouth Disease (EuFMD) delivered video messages congratulating their Armenian colleagues.

Following this, conference participants were presented with an overview of the projects implemented, as well as the challenges and achievements in the field of veterinary medicine.

Mikael Haykuni, Animal Health and Breeding specialist at the SDA NGO, presented the progject interventions implemented by the organization to improve veterinary and artificial insemination services for cows.

A group of veterinarians and epidemiologists were awarded certificates of appreciation, honors, and souvenirs.

RA Minister of Economy, Gevorg Papoyan, also awarded a Certificate of Appreciation to Mkrtich Ayvazyan, Chairman of the Strategic Development Agency (SDA) NGO, for the contributions to the development of the veterinary sector.

The MAVETA project is funded by a broad coalition of international and local organizations led by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), including the Austrian Development Agency, the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Government of Armenia, the HEKS/EPER  NGO, Izmirlian Foundation, the Strategic Development Agency (SDA) NGO and Vanand Agro CJSC.

 The project’s implementing partners are the GIZ and HEKS/EPER with the involvement of SDA and the School of Agricultural, Forest and Food Sciences at the Bern University of Applied Sciences (HAFL).

 

 

RECONOMY x LILA Study Tour for Moldovan Tour-Operators

Within the framework of the cooperation between RECONOMY’s “Digitizing Sectors for Competitiveness” and “Living Landscapes for Market Development in Armenia” (LILA) projects, a group of Moldovan tour-operators is on a study visit to Armenia from April 25 to May 2.

A meeting with Armenian tour operators was held on April 25, in Yerevan, during which Mher Sahakyan, RECONOMY’s “Digitizing Sectors for Competitiveness” project manager, and Alla Ghazaryan, the “Living Landscapes for Market Development in Armenia” (LILA) project coordinator, presented the projects, its interventions aimed at tourism development, and the tourism results created.

LILA project partners Nueva Vista and AM Travel tour-operators presented their inbound tourism offers and their willingness to cooperate with Moldovan partners.

Afterwards, the participants discussed the prospects for creating joint regional tourism packages.

The study tour will continue to tourist destinations in Armenia, during which Moldovan tour-operators will have the opportunity to get acquainted with the tourism results created by the businesses benefiting from the LILA project in the regions.

RECONOMY x LILA Working Meeting Between Tour-Guides and Tour Operators

Within the framework of RECONOMY’s “Digitizing Sectors for Competitiveness” and “Living Landscapes for Market Development in Armenia” (LILA) projects, a working meeting of tour-guides and tour-operators was held in Yerevan on April 23 on the topic of developing experience-based tourism.

The event participants were welcomed and presented on the projects interventions by Mher Sahakyan, RECONOMY’s “Digitizing Sectors for Competitiveness” project manager, and Alla Ghazaryan, the “Living Landscapes for Market Development in Armenia” (LILA) project coordinator.

Gevorg Babayan, founder of the Like Local digital platform, provided general information about platform’s activities, international experience exchange, and also presented the importance of developing and providing experience-based tourism services.

Exceptional attention was paid to including families living a unique lifestyle in Armenian communities, who will be able to host tourists, presenting the tourism features typical of their regions.
