Awareness raising campaign aimed to increase the role of artificial insemination services in animal husbandry

On December 12, in Jermuk a conference on “Increasing the Role of the Artificial Insemination Service for Cattle breading” was held. The conference was organized within the “Promotion of Artificial Insemination” awareness raising campaign aimed at promoting dissemination of artificial insemination services for cattle and increasing it’s role and importance among farmers.

The event was full of discussions on solving the problem. Awareness raising and photo competition for calves was organized during the conference.

The event was concluded with presentation of photo contest of calves born in the result of artificial insemination. Two farmers from Vayots Dzor and Syunik marzes were selected by three jury members. The 43 farmers who participated in the competition received certificates of appreciation, and the winners received prizes. The event was also of interest to the farmers who do not use the artificial insemination service.

About 70 representatives from Syunik and Vayots Dzor marzes – women and men farmers, artificial insemination technicians, veterinarians, as well as representatives from the state bodies participated in the conference.

It is envisaged that such events will be continuous.

The conference was organized within the framework of the “Livestock Development in the South of Armenia” project. The project is implemented by Strategic Development Agency (SDA) NGO funded by Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). The project aims to increase economic opportunities and incomes of farmers involved in animal husbandry in Syunik and Vayots Dzor regions.

Third meeting of donor organizations involved in Vocational Education and Training

Annual Stakeholder Dialogue Meeting launched today at Aghveran Crystal Resort. The Stakeholder Dialogue meeting is organized by “Strategic Development Agency” NGO in the framework of “VET development in Syunik marz” project in cooperation with RA Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport.

The meeting is taking place for the 3rd time and it involved representatives from the following organizations/institutions: RA Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, National Center for VET development, “GIZ Armenia”, “Save the Children Armenia”, “Global Development Fund”, “Anoushavan and Ofik Abrahamian Education Fund”, “German VET partnership project”, State Employment Agency, “People in Need”, “Armenian Caritas” benevolent NGO, UNDP Armenia and International Labor Organization (ILO).

During the meeting the organizations exchanged presentations on their projects: main goals and achievements followed by questions and answers and discussions sessions and coordination of future plans.

The Stakeholder dialogue meeting serves as a platform for experience sharing and information exchange in the field of VET.

 

“Accessible Export” intensive training course on export toolkit and international tendencies was held in Jermuk

On December 13-14 in Jermuk an “Accessible Export” intensive training course on export toolkit and international tendencies was held. The training was organized by Strategic Development NGO within the framework of “Livestock Development in Armenia: South-North” Project funded by Austrian Development Agency, the program unit of Austrian Development and Cooperation, and Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation as well as “Livestock Development in South of Armenia” Project, funded by Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.

The training course was aimed at skill development and knowledge enhancement of milk processing companies’ representatives operating in Tavush, Gegharkunik, Shirak and Lori marzes. The training was delivered by #ExportSolutions company by industry experts: Mr. Narek Aleksanyan and Ms. Anna Beklyarova.

Veterinary Development conference in Armenia

On November 26-27 in Dilijan a two-day Conference was held aimed at reviewing and discussing solutions to existing problems in veterinary field, exchanging professional experience, and networking.

The conference provided an opportunity for presenting and discussing work done and expected developments and processes in veterinary field at public and private levels, a number of various disease treatment methods, establishment of new cooperation linkages between veterinarians and veterinary input supplier companies.

The conference was organized by “Strategic Development Agency” (SDA) NGO in the framework of “Livestock Development in the South of Armenia” project funded by Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and “Livestock Development in Armenia: South – North” funded by the Austrian Development Agency (ADA), the operational unit of Austrian Development Cooperation, and Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.

The long-term goal of above-mentioned programs is to promote inclusive and sustainable agricultural development in livestock dependent communities in both: southern and northern regions of Armenia by enhancing private sector development and activating Armenian-Georgian economic relations.

The event was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Economy,Food Safety State Inspectorate, UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), National Agrarian University of Armenia, “National Association of Veterinarians NGO”, field supplier companies, as well as programs’ beneficiary veterinarians.

The 6th Workshop of the Coordination Platform for Sustainable Management of RA’s Natural Fodder AreasTook Place

On November 21 the 6th Workshop of the Coordination Platform for Sustainable Management of RA’s Natural Fodder Areas was held in Yerevan. The main purpose of the workshop was to present the working version of the Concept paper on Sustainable Management of RA Natural Fodder Areas developed in recent months. Among the workshop participants were representatives of the RA National Assembly and various ministries related to the sector, as well as public, international and scientific institutions.

At the beginning of the event, Mr. Ashot Giloyan, the head of the Local government policy department of the RA Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, Mr. Matevos Asatryan, deputy of the RA National Assembly and member of the NA Standing Committee on Territorial Administration, Local Government, Agriculture and Environment and Mr. Ashot Harutyunyan, expert of the same Committee, welcomed the participants and wished them fruitful work. Further, the speakers highlighted the importance of the Platform’s activities and especially its recent initiatives aimed at developing a Concept paper for the sustainable management of natural fodder areas in Armenia and supporting organization of controlled movement of animals in Syunik marz.

A new partner of the Platform – the “National Association of Veterinarians” NGO was welcomed on board during the workshop.

During the workshop, the results and lessons learned from the study tour to the Republic of Kyrgyzstan were presented. The tour was organized by the Platform for the representatives of various stakeholders involved in pasture management sector in order to study the practices of sustainable pasture management in this country. The next section of the workshop was dedicated to the presentation and discussion of the working version of the Concept paper on Sustainable Management of RA Natural Fodder Areas, the development of which was initiated by the Platform and was done by collaborative efforts of national, regional and civil society organizations.

The Coordination Platform for Sustainable Management of RA’s Natural Fodder Areas is a joint initiative of the Strategic Development Agency (SDA) NGO, Integrated Biodiversity Management in the South Caucasus Program implemented  by the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ) and CARMAC II project implemented by the RA Ministry of Economy with the support of the World Bank.
