LILA project’s partnering tour operators participated in the ATMDubai2024 international exhibition

From 6th-9th of May, 2024, three tour operators: AM TRAVEL, Armland Adventure Club, and Ruben Tours LLC joined forces for the #ATMDubai2024 international exhibition, showcasing Armenia’s tourism potential and the nature-based experiences provided by them. The involvement in this exhibition was facilitated and organized with the support of “Living Landscapes for Market Development in Armenia” (LILA) project.

Through their presence at #ATMDubai2024, these tour operators had the opportunity to engage with a diverse array of visitors, industry professionals, and potential partners.

By showcasing the country’s tourism offerings on an international stage, they aimed to attract more travelers to Armenia and contribute to its sustainable development.

Career promotion day in Etchmiatsin

Within the framework of the Modernizing Vocational Education and Training in Agriculture in Armenia (MAVETA) project, Strategic Development Agency (SDA) NGO organized a “Career Promotion Day” in Etchmiadzin on 3rd of May.

Dozens of students from Armavir marz schools were welcomed at Etchmiadzin State Vocational School by Lilit Hovhannisyan, MAVETA project manager, Manuk Nazaryan, vocational college director and other representatives of the event.

In her speech, Lilit Hovhannisyan emphasized that taking into consideration the demand for specialists working in nut and fruit orchards in the region, the “Orchard worker” specialty will be introduced in the college from the 2024-2025 school year, which will be taught with a dual education approach.

Then the students walked around the booths presented in the courtyard of the college, got acquainted with the professions, had interactions with students, teachers and representatives of private companies.

“Walnut Farms” manager Serob Mnatsakanyan and agronomist Karen Minasyan talked with schoolchildren about their experience and success stories in the field of orchard, as well as about self-expression and high income in the agricultural sector.

In the second half of the day, a group of students visited the orchards of “Vanand Agro” company, located on the territory of Vanand village. During the tour, Hayk Stepanyan, the manager of the orchard, presented to the schoolchildren the features of the cultivation of sorghum, the agricultural machinery, noted the importance of competent orchard workers and encouraged the students to be engaged in agriculture.

“Veterinary medicine for a healthy society” conference dedicated to Veterinarian Day

Strategic Development Agency NGO and the RA Food Safety Inspectorate collaborated to host regional conferences titled “Veterinary Medicine for a Healthy Society” in Shirak Region on April 26 and in Syunik Region on April 23. These events aimed to recognize the vital role of veterinarians in agricultural advancement and to inspire their continued dedication.

The International Day of Veterinarians has been celebrated at the state level in the Republic of Armenia already for 5 years.

This year, the event was organized with the support of the “Modernizing Vocational Education and Training in Agriculture in Armenia” (MAVETA) project.

The Governor of Shirak, Mushegh Muradyan, greeted the participants of the event hold in Shirak and congratulated them on the occasion of the Veterinary Day. “I must state that veterinary medicine is one of the most important spheres, the health of an animal is directly proportional to the human’s health. It is undeniable that animal husbandry continues to be an important means of livelihood for the residents of the communities of Shirak region. Therefore, the role of a knowledgeable specialist in providing medical care to animals is priceless.”

Mr. Muradyan was followed by the greetings of Sona Tsarukyan, Deputy Head of the RA Food Safety Inspectorate, Garnik Hovhannisyan, Director of the Agricultural Services Center of the RA Ministry of Economy, and Lilit Hovhannisyan, the representative of Strategic Development Agency NGO, the MAVETA project manager. In her speech, Lilit Hovhannisyan highlighted the role of young veterinarians in the development of agriculture and outlined the benefits and features of the dual education method introduced by the MAVETA project.

Areg Sarukhanyan, a veterinarian of Strategic Development Agency NGO, and Arevik Abovyan, the dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Husbandry of the Armenian National Agrarian University, presented the importance of the veterinary profession, sectoral problems and possible solutions. Areg Sarukhanyan briefly mentioned the initiatives undertaken by Strategic Development Agency NGO to enhance the sector.

The events wrapped up with an active discussion followed by the screening of a movie created in collaboration with veterinarians.

A study visit for school pupils was organized to the lead farm owned by “Vahan Grigoryan” PE.

On November 17, Strategic Development Agency NGO, in collaboration with the Stepanavan State Agricultural College, organized a study visit to the lead farm of “Vahan Grigoryan” PE in the framework of the MAVETA project for pupils from Stepanavan School No. 6.

The aim of this visit was to introduce the agricultural specialties piloted through dual education programs at the college, the specification and opportunities of dual education approach.

During the visit, Artur Titanyan, the veterinarian of the farm, provided insights into the veterinary profession, talked about the profession’s importance, existing demand in the market and aging out of the veterinary profession.  Mr. Titanyan made a tour in the farm and answered to the pupils’ questions.

The meeting was also attended by the career consultant of the Stepanavan State Agricultural College and the relevant teachers who presented the college, the educational program and taught professions.

The pupils had the chance get acquainted with the behavior of different pedigree animals, the organization of milking process and the modern agricultural machines and equipment used in the farm.

Visit of the Deputy Regional Director of Swiss Cooperation South Caucasus Ursula Läubli to Strategic Development Agency NGO

The newly appointed Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Switzerland in Armenia and Deputy Regional Director of Swiss Cooperation South Caucasus Ursula Läubli starts her assignment in Armenia with meetings with the representatives of key partner organizations driving flagship development projects funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) in Armenia.

Ms. Läubli was accompanied to the meetings by her predecessor, Mr. Werner Thut.

As per the scheduled agenda, a visit was conducted to the office of Strategic Development Agency (SDA) NGO, where a meeting took place with Mkrtich Ayvazyan, the chairman of the organization and Karen Manvelyan, the Director of WWF Armenia. During the meeting “Living Landscapes for Market Development in Armenia” (LILA) project, the ongoing project’s interventions and planned activities were discussed.
