The second steering committee meeting of the project “Livestock Development in Armenia: South –North” took place

The second Steering Committee meeting of the project “Livestock Development in Armenia: South –North” took place on 25th of April, 2019 in the Shirak Regional Government Office.

The Project is implemented by the “Strategic Development Agency” (SDA) NGO and is financed by the Austrian Development Agency the operational unit of Austrian Development Cooperation, and Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.

The Project targets over 100,000 households involved in cattle breeding, actors of milk and meat value chains and local self- governing bodies of 100 rural settlements of Shirak, Lori, Tavush and Gegharkunik marzes.

The aim of the event was to present the areas of the implemented project interventions and to discuss the results with stakeholders.

Representatives from RA Minisrty of Agriculture, RA Ministry of Territorial Administration and Development, representatives from Lori, Shirak, Gegharkunik and Tavush Regional Government Offices, and representatives from donor organizations and other relevant bodies took part in the event.

 

Meeting/discussion on educational materials for “Junior Veterinarian” profession.

In the framework of “VET development in Syunik marz” project Strategic Development Agency NGO organized a meeting/discussion with the Target Group Representatives (TGR) on March 28-29, 2019 in Aghveran.

The main aim of the meeting was to present developed teaching materials for the profession of “Junior Veterinarian” to the teachers from agricultural colleges implementing the profession and to private veterinarians. The meeting involved representatives from RA Ministry of Education and Science (MoES), National Center for VET Development, teachers from Goris State Agricultural College, Stepanavan State Agricultural College, Gavar State Agricultural College, private veterinarians and representatives from the National Association of Veterinarians NGO.

The meeting started with the welcome speeches by the Head of VET department of Ministry of Education of RA Artak Aghbalyan and the project manager Lilit Hovhannisyan. The project expert Meruzhan Zadayan presented shortly the educational standard and curriculum based on which the educational materials have been developed. During the meeting the main approach used for developing the teaching materials has been presented. The teaching material of each module contains a descriptive part and general description, the main learning objectives that the student should reach after its completion, as well as some practical exercises and a test for checking to which extent the students learnt the topic. Besides after each part there is a list of links and didactic materials used for the development of teaching materials. Then, the developed teaching materials for each module have been presented to participants in details by showing the whole structure. The participants had also possibility to ask questions, to discuss each part of the materials and to make comments and present suggestions. On the second day the participants continued discussion of the materials and finalized the suggestions.

All the comments and suggestions will be considered by the expert and according to them relevant modifications will be made in the materials. Overall all the participants were very satisfied with the meeting and mentioned that the approach used for the development of materials was very effective as due to it the materials are very much accessible both for teachers and students.

The “Consumer Week” information campaign was summarized by the conference dedicated to the International Consumer Protection Day

Prior to the International Consumer Protection Day, the Consumer Week Information Campaign was organized, which was then concluded by the Conference held on 15th of March.

The conference dedicated to the International Day of Consumers’ Rights Protection was held in Yerevan already for the third time by the initiative of the Food Safety Inspection Body with support of partner organizations.

The slogan of this year’s 2019 campaign was «Well-Informed Consumer, Healthy Society». The conference was attended by the Prime Minister of RA Nikol Pashinyan, representatives of public and scientific organizations, governmental institutions, diplomatic missions accredited in Armenian, partners from the Eurasian Economic Union and EU delegation, as well as experts, businessmen, and consumers.

The purpose of the conference was to strengthen the consumer’s position, by informing them about the rights and educating them, particularly, in the area of food safety. During the event, invited guests watched the movie about the campaign dedicated to the International Consumer Protection Day, discussed and focused on enhancing the mechanisms of public control in the field of food safety, the improvement of businessmen’s activities in the food chain, as well as the cooperation with international and local organizations.

Awards were also given in the following nominations: «Active and Informed Consumer», «Best Media Coverage of Food Safety Sector», «Most Active NGO according to Max Monitor’s Analysis».

The Conference was co-financed by “Strategic Development Agency” NGO within the framework of “Livestock Development in Armenia, South-North” program. The above-mentioned program is implemented by the Strategic Development Agency NGO and funded by the Austrian Development Agency, the operational unit of Austrian Development Cooperation and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.

 

Pieces of training on effective pasture management and gender awareness have been launched

During March-April of 2019,  Strategic Development Agency NGO’s project team planned to conduct a series of training in Gegharkunik region on effective pasture management and gender awareness for primary and key stakeholders of “Livestock Development in Armenia: South-North project”.

The pieces of training were organized in the municipalities of Shoghakat and Tchambarak of Gegharkunik region. In total 71 farmers and representatives of local self-government bodies participated in the training. Due to the training, participants became aware of pastures effective management and gender mainstreaming in the SDA’s projects.

Strategic Development Agency NGO, highlighting women economic empowerment, pays special attention to the needs of women in the rural areas, ensures their equal participation in decision-making processes and supports them to equally benefit from basic services and improved or established infrastructures.

The trainings were organized in frames of “Livestock Development in Armenia, South-North” Project, which is implemented  by Strategic Development Agency NGO, and financed by the Austrian Development Agency, the operational unit of Austrian Development Cooperation and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.

 

Training for teachers on “Advisory Service Provision”

In the framework of the “VET development in Syunik marz” project, workshop on developing competences of teachers of Goris State Agricultural College and ANAU Sisian branch for organizing courses on extension services in the field of Milk Technology and Veterinary took place in Goris State Agricultural College from 26-28 February, 2019.

In total 6 teachers from both educational institutions participated in the workshop.

The workshop has been organized by Strategic Development Agency (SDA) NGO in partnership with HAFL (The School of Agricultural, Forest and Food Sciences of the Bern University of Applied Sciences) and was conducted by Johannes Brunner, an expert from HAFL.

The main objectives of the workshop were to strengthen competences in developing of short-term courses in advisory services for market players in milk and meet value chains, to work with different methods in adult education and to lead and apply different instruments in change-management processes.

During the 3 days of the workshop participants get to know what “Extension” means and what are the main functions of the extension worker. By being involved in group works and discussions the participants could learn about different communication models and how to apply them in individual and group counseling. Participants also learnt about important principles of working with adults and which attitudes and approaches should be used in adult education.

Through role plays participants could develop own consulting cases and try the instruments and methods provided and to realize how to properly plan and implement the advising processes.

As a result of the workshop participants developed basic skills and knowledge in the field of providing advisory services which they will use for developing and conducting short-term courses for the representatives of private sector.
