A training on “Balanced feeding of animals as a basis for animal production and health” was organized

On December 16-17, the Strategic Development Agency NGO in frames of “Livestock development in Armenia: south-north” organized a training course on “Balanced feeding of animals as a basis for animal nutrition and health” in the city of Dilijan. 35 veterinarians from Shirak, Lori, Tavush, and Gegharkunik regions took part in the training.

The course aimed to present to the veterinarians, operating in the territory of the Republic of Armenia, the new modern methods of feed preparation,  quality control by organoleptic testing, and the principles of feeding animals of different species, age, sex, physiological condition, and productivity for regulating the health, resistance, productivity and fertility.

The training covered the following four topics: feed quality and its impact on the animal’s organism, metabolism and nutritional requirements for growing and pregnant animals, as well as nutritional requirements for dairy animals and their metabolism.

The training was followed by an exhibition-sale of veterinary medicines and other supplies, aiming to establish and strengthen the partnership between veterinary medicines suppliers and veterinarians working in the project’s target communities.

During the exhibition-sale, veterinarians were given the opportunity to acquire modern means for the treatment and prevention of animal diseases, as well as to establish contacts with suppliers to get the supply of medicines and other means to their remote settlements at low market prices.

The training course on social media marketing for processors was conducted

Within the framework of “Livestock Development in Armenia: South-North” project on December 11,  a training course on social media marketing was held in the city of Dilijan for 21 processors of Lori, Shirak, Tavush, and Gegharkunik regions of RA.

The main goal of the course was to give the participants basic knowledge and practical skills in social media marketing.

During the training, practical work sessions, and discussions, the participants gained knowledge and skills on how to organize the promotion of their products on social media platforms, taking all the necessary steps and using the appropriate tools.

During the training, the representatives of the project beneficiary processing companies received also an individual consultancy, which will help them to evaluate the needs of their customers in the right way and will lay the foundation for the establishment of the profitable business.

New Learning Opportunities for Social Groups in Lori, Shirak, Tavush and Gegharkunik regions of RA

In frames of “Livestock development in Armenia: South-North” project from 18th of November to 3rd of December, the training courses entitled “New Learning Opportunities for Social Groups of Target Regions” were organized in Lori, Shirak, Tavush and Gegharkunik regions of RA. The training sessions covered such topics as the best practices in the animal husbandry, awareness-raising on gender equality and women’s empowerment, the significance of women and men farmers in the livestock development etc. In addition, during the sessions the importance of environmental management in the milk and meat value chains and the legislation regulating the sector have been presented.

The main purpose of the training course was to help the members of different social groups to get acquainted with the best practices of farming, veterinary and waste management.

During the training course all the preventive measures for the Covid-19 spread were taken.

Participation in the Harvest Festival: Rural Life and Traditions

Two partners of Strategic Development Agency’s “Livestock Development in the South of Armenia” Project “Erpin” Agricultural Cooperative and “Liana Grigoryan” SP along with 2 active beneficiaries of “Livestock Development in Armenia: South-North” Project “Grand Milk” LLC and “KaraevKaren” LLC participated in the “Harvest Festival: Rural Life and Traditions”. They presented a wide range of their products. The Harvest Festival: Rural Life and Traditions is organized on an annual basis by Green Lane NGO with the support of local and international organizations. This year the festival took place on 26-27th of September, in Dzoraghbyur village, Green Training Center.

The main goal of the festival is to support the development of rural communities. It is already the fifth year that “Strategic Development Agency” NGO is an organizational partner of the Festival.

Competitions among farmers and their groups took place on 26th of September, as well as interesting events and games for children and teenagers were organized. The Festival was accompanied by live music, traditional songs and dances. The best fruits, vegetables, dairy foods, honey, dried fruits were exhibited during this “tasty” festival and all attendants had a unique chance to taste and later on to buy those. During this festival, farmers from almost all regions of Armenia were willingly presenting their high-quality products with a great taste and look.

Օpen lessons were organized for lecturers teaching “Milk, Dairy Technology” and “Veterinary” profession

On September 25, 2020, within the framework of “VET development in Syunik marz” project open lessons were organized at Armenian National Agrarian University for 8 lecturers teaching “Milk և Dairy Technology” and “Veterinary” professions at Goris State Agricultural College after Professor Kh. Yeritsyan and Sisian branch of Armenian National Agrarian University.

The project is being implemented by “Strategic Development Agency” (SDA) NGO in partnership with the School of Agricultural, Forest and Food Sciences of the Bern University of Applied Sciences (HAFL) with the support of HEKS/EPER.

The event was aimed at promoting the exchange of experience between the lecturers teaching in the above-mentioned professions, the study of new teaching methods, the discussion of the perspectives and opportunities for the renewal of teaching process and the acquisition of best practices.

In the course of the lectures, the lecturers had the opportunity to get acquainted with the methods of organizing theoretical and practical courses in both professions, visited the Clinic and Laboratory attached to the University participating in the courses being held. At the end of the lessons, the participants exchanged teaching materials, necessary literature followed by questions, discussions about the process and suggestions on making the arranged lessons more effective.

During the lessons and follow-up discussions, all the rules of anti-epidemic safety caused by the Covid-19 pandemic were observed.
