Training for MAVETA project private sector partners

On February 1-2, within the framework of the “Modernizing Vocational Education and Training in Agriculture in Armenia (MAVETA) project” (MAVETA) project, “Strategic Development Agency” (SDA) NGO conducted a training on applying gender-sensitive approaches and ensuring equal opportunities for vulnerable groups in the labor market for the partners in private sector.

Anna Poghosyan, gender and public communication specialist at the “Strategic Development Agency” NGO, presented the local and international experience of eliminating gender-based discrimination in the workplace and applying sensitive approaches, the importance of creating equal opportunities for women and men, and the necessary steps aiming at empowerment of women.

The representatives of the private sector got acquainted with the possibilities of inclusion of persons with disabilities in the labor market, legislation and regulations in Armenia, the experience of reasonable adaptations and global trends, which were presented by Suzanna Petrosyan, an expert in inclusive education.

The participants of the two-day training also had the opportunity to strengthen their knowledge about the abilities and characteristics of vulnerable groups through interactive games and to share their experience and approaches to solving problems in the workplace.

Team building and soft skills training for MAVETA partner: ANAU Sisian Branch College

Emphasizing the need for interpersonal skills development among partners, on January 20-21, “Strategic Development Agency” NGO within the framework of the “Modernizing Vocational Education and Training in Agriculture in Armenia” (MAVETA) project organized a training on “Team building and time management” for the teachers of ANAU Sisian branch college.

The aim of the training was to contribute to the cohesion of the staff of ANAU Sisian Branch College and to form the environment of trust.

During the training, with the help of theoretical part and games, participants got acquainted with the methods of improving teamwork, communication and cooperation, the principles of time management, methods of defining tasks and priorities.

Visits to the public schools of Ejmiatsin for professional orientation

On January 19, as part of the Modernizing Vocational Education and Training in Agriculture in Armenia (MAVETA) project, the career orientation visits were organized to Yervand Otyan Primary School No. 7 and Zoravar Andranik School No. 12 in Zvartnots District of Ejmiatsin, Armavir Marz. The shool visits were held jointly with the MAVETA project partner։ Ejmiatsin State Vocational School.

During the meeting, Lilit Beglaryan, VET consultant for the MAVETA project, introduced the project and highlighted the professions incorporated within the dual education.

Gagik Vardanyan, a teacher of the Ejmiatsin State Vocational School, presented the possibilities of the college, the profession of “Fruit and Nut orchard worker” to be introduced in the dual system from the 2024-2025 academic year, and the prospects for the development of horticulture in Armenia, especially in the Armavir region.

Hayk Stepanyan, representative of the Ejmiatsin State Vocational School’s partnering institution “Vanand Agro” CJSC, presented the demand for the profession, the profile of the horticulturist’s occupation and the opportunities to work in their company.

More than 90 students were present at the two meetings, and they raised their questions about the admission procedure and the duration of education for the presented profession.

Visit to a public school for professional orientation

On January 18, as part of the Modernizing Vocational Education and Training in Agriculture in Armenia (MAVETA) project, a visit focused on professional orientation was organized at primary school No. 21 named after Alexander Shirvanzade. The event was a collaborative effort with MAVETA project partner: the ANAU Agricultural College after A. Kochinyan. During the meeting, Lilit Beglaryan, VET consultant for the MAVETA project, introduced the project and highlighted the professions incorporated within the dual education.

Additionally, Lilit Saroyan, responsible for career guidance at the Agricultural College of ANAU, and Eteri Stepanyan, associate professor of horticulture, showcased the college opportunities, professions piloted with dual education approach, the benefits of the dual education, and the current trends in horticulture development in Armenia. More than 40 students were present at the meeting, who actively posed questions about the admission process and the duration of courses for the presented professions.

A press conference and discussion on food safety issues was jointly organized with Food Safety Inspectorate of RA

On January 12-13, with the support of the projects implemented by Strategic Development Agency NGO: “Livestock Development in Armenia: South-North 2” and “Modernizing Vocational Education and Training in Agriculture in Armenia” (MAVETA­) a press conference and discussion on food safety issues was jointly organized with the the Food Safety Inspectorate of RA.

The purpose of the meeting was to present to mass media the challenges existing in the field of food safety, animal husbandry and veterinary sector and to discuss ways to solve them.

The meeting started with the speech of Armen Hayrapetyan, Head of Food Safety Inspectorate, who provided an overview of the operations that had been carried out in 2023.

During the two-day meeting, the staff of Strategic Development Agency NGO presented and discussed the initiatives aimed at improving the agricultural and VET sectors, project interventions, necessary steps to increase the attractiveness of agricultural professions and  problems arising among milk processors during the implementation of the HACCP system.

During the press conference and discussion, the representatives of the media were informed about the existing problems in the field of food safety, reforms and subsequent actions planned to be implemented in the above-mentioned areas.
