Trainings for farmers’ skills and abilities development

During May-June, 2024 a series of trainings on gender equality, milk hygiene and seed production was organized for the farmers of RA Syunik, Shirak and Gegharkunik regions within the framework of the “Livestock Development in Armenia: South-North 2” project. “Livestock Development in Armenia: South-North 2” project is implemented by Strategic Development Agency NGO with financial support of the Austrian Development Agency, the operational unit of Austrian Development Cooperation.

126 farmers participated in the trainings. During the training, the farmers were informed about the right milking technics and hygiene requirements, the actions aimed at improving the quality of milk and increasing the quantity of milk.

Additionally, participants of the trainings were also provided with consultancy on cultivating sainfoin, seeding techniques, and optimal seed cycling periods.

Fostering Collaboration Between MAVETA Project Partner Employers and Colleges

On June 6-7, within the framework of the “Modernizing Vocational Education and Training in Agriculture in Armenia” (MAVETA) program, implemented by the “Strategic Development Agency” NGO, a meeting was held in Tsaghkadzor to establish and strengthen cooperation between employers and vocational educational institutions.

More than forty MAVETA project partners participated in this two-day workshop.

In his welcoming speech, Mkrtich Ayvazyan, the Chairman of the “Strategic Development Agency” NGO, emphasized the organization’s successful experience in collaborating with representatives of the private sector and vocational educational institutions. He expressed confidence that mutually beneficial relationships would be established with the new partners of the project.

The participants were also welcomed by Monique Frey, Senior VET Consultant from HEKS/EPER, who noted that the Swiss model, recognized for its effective use of state resources, has been integrated into the training program for future apprentices.

Lilit Hovhannisyan, MAVETA Project Manager, presented an overview of the project’s main achievements and upcoming actions from its start in 2022 to the present. She highlighted the main prerequisites for cooperation, the roles of colleges and the private sector, and their responsibilities in introducing professions with a dual educational approach.

Following this, a working discussion was held under the coordination of Narine Abrahamyan, the project’s Business Consultant. Employers and representatives of vocational educational institutions exchanged information about their activities.

Lilit Avetisyan, a representative of Goris State Agricultural College, provided information on the professions implemented with a dual educational approach for the 2023-2024 school year. She shared experiences, achievements, and challenges in establishing cooperation with partners.

On the second day, discussions continued in group work sessions, focusing on the needs for capacity development and improvements in collaboration between the private sector and colleges.

At the end of the workshop, Business Consultant Narine Abrahamyan and VET Consultant Lilit Beglaryan summarized the joint action plan for the 2024-2025 school year, outlining the professions to be introduced.

The programs of “Strategic Development Agency” NGO were presented at the event dedicated to Europe Day

On May 23, “Strategic Development Agency” NGO participated in the Europe Day 2024 info Fair featuring TEI and EU-funded projects, organized at the “Impact Hub Syunik” in Goris, Syunik Marz, RA.  The event started with the discussion led by EU Ambassador Vassilis Maragos and Governor of Syunik Robert Ghukasyan on progress of Resilient Syunik Team Europe Initiative and socio-economic development needs, which are still persistent in the region.

37 projects with a total budget of EUR 125 million, currently implemented under the umbrella of Resilient Syunik “Team Europe” initiative, were presented during the fair. At the fair, “Strategic Development Agency” NGO presented 4 projects implemented in Syunik Marz, RA. The fair, featuring local projects and products was open to wider public. The day was concluded with a concert.

The Resilient Syunik Team Europe initiative is the joint undertaking of the European Union, the European Investment Bank and EU Member States Austria, Czechia, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland and Sweden, with Switzerland also joining as an external partner. The main objective of this initiative is to contribute to the sustainable socioeconomic and institutional development of the Syunik region in line with local development priorities.

The training on “Cattle feeding improvement” was organized

Within the framework of “Modernizing Vocational Education and Training in Agriculture in Armenia” (MAVETA) project from 6-17 of May, the Strategic Development Agency NGO invited Arie Keijzer, an expert from the PUM (Dutch Senior Consultants Organization) program to conduct a training on cattle feeding improvement, aiming to determine the requirement of nutrients needed by cattle and the norms of feeding, to make an effective feed ration, to study the right technique and organization of feeding process, as well as to transfer the Dutch experience.

During the training entitled “Improving feeding of cattle” organized in Lori and Syunik marzes, the expert not only shared his experience, but also addressed all the questions raised by the participants, as well as during face to face visits provided individual consultancy to the project partner farms.

Career Promotion Day in Berd

Within the framework of the “Modernizing Vocational Education and Training in Agriculture in Armenia” (MAVETA) project, the Strategic Development Agency (SDA) NGO organized a Career Promotion Day for pupils of Berd Community schools on May 17.

The Berd State Multifunctional College opened its doors to about two hundred school students. The attendees were welcomed by Lilit Hovhannisyan, the head of MAVETA project, Anna Avalyan, the director of the college and other participants of the event.

In her speech, Lilit Hovhannisyan mentioned that the cooperation with Berd State Multifunctional College, as a partner educational institution of the project, is exemplary and successful. Three specialties with a dual educational system are already available at the college: agricultural mechanization, milk and dairy products technology and veterinary medicine.

The director of the college, Anna Avalyan, in her speech emphasized that the efforts aimed at training high-quality specialists and improving the lives of students in the educational institution will continue from now on, which is a unique opportunity for applicants to get a quality education in the region.

The pupils had a tour at the college, got acquainted with the taught professions, participated in students’ practical classes, had interactive interactions with students and teachers, watched an animation film about the agricultural professions taught with a dual educational system.

At the end of the event, the college career officer and the students prepared a surprise for the pupils in the form of a game and gifts.
