The career guidance day was organized at Goris State Agricultural College

In the framework of “VET development in Syunik marz” project Strategic Development Agency in collaboration with Goris State Agricultural College organized “Professions Day” promotional event. The event took place at Goris State Agricultural College on 11th of May, 2019. It was organized for the second time. The main aim of the event was to promote the professions of “Veterinarian” and “Milk and Dairy Technologist” among the youngsters who are at the point of choosing their future career path. More than 100 schoolchildren from schools of Goris and Sisian communities participated in the event.

The event started with the welcoming speeches from the director of Goris State Agricultural College Mrs. Nune Avetisyan, and then “Vet development in Syunik marz” project manager Ms. Lilit Hovhannisyan summarized the official part of the event, encouraging the youngsters to choose one of the professions.

During the second part of the event the youngsters in 4 groups were given the opportunity to visit the open classes during which the employers and specialists of both professions talked about the advantages of their professions and their own experience as well as the milk and veterinary laboratories. In the milk laboratory the youngsters were introduced to different processes of milk processing also they had a chance to see the process of cheese making, while in the veterinary laboratory the youngsters had an opportunity to watch the film which was made during the practice the students had at Syunik Animal Market, as well as were introduced to different instruments and devices that are used at the laboratory. The youngsters had also opportunity to ask questions to the specialists and discover the possibilities that the professions could entail.

100 livestock farmers participated in the conference on “Innovative and Effective Livestock Management”

On May 2-4, within the framework of “Livestock Development in the South of Armenia” Project the conference on “Innovative and Effective Livestock Management” was organized in the city of Jermuk.

The purpose of the conference was to introduce young farmers to innovative and efficient approaches to livestock farming and to promote their application in rural communities of Armenia. More than 100 livestock farmers from Syunik, Vayots Dzor, Gegharkunik and Lori provinces participated in the conference.

During the conference, the participants exchanged views on how to introduce new technologies in cereals and fodder crops production, livestock production and seed farming, shared the experience reached in Karmrashen settlement as well as the experience of corn silo’s experimental production reached in Brnakot settlement of Syunik Marz.

The providers of agricultural equipment and supplies also attended the conference on “Innovative and Effective Livestock Management”, they had an opportunity to speak about the availability of agricultural equipment and veterinary medicines in the market and the benefits from their use. The representative of “Spetsmash” LLC briefly presented the effectiveness of the use of machines with modern technologies and the list of agricultural equipment available on the market.

 

The fourth workshop on “Sustainable Management of RA’s Natural Fodder Areas: Pastures and Grasslands” was held

On April 30, the fourth workshop on for “Sustainable Management of RA’s Natural Fodder Areas: Pastures and Grasslands” took place. The meeting was attended by the representatives of the Ministries of Agriculture, Territorial Administration and Development, as well as the Ministries of Nature Protection, the representatives of international organizations, non-governmental organizations and scientific institutions.

During the workshop, a new partner organization of the platform [1] was presented. The process of developing the concept for sustainable management of feeding landscapes (pasture and grassland) as well as the analysis of existing problems detected during the research were discussed as well as the basis for the formation of a working group fort concept elaboration was established. The obstacles to the two-way pasture management were voiced out by the community representatives, as well as the necessary measures to overcome them were discussed.

International Veterinarian Day was celebrated in Armenia for the first time

In 2019, from April 25-26, by the joint efforts of the Strategic Development Agency NGO and the Food Security Inspectorate under the Government of the Republic of Armenia, on the occasion of the International Veterinary Day the conference in Yerevan and seminars, lectures and discussions in the regions of Armenia were organized. The events were organized with the support of the “Livestock Development in Armenia, South-North” project implemented by the Strategic Development Agency NGO with the financial support of the Austrian Development Agency and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.

On 25th of April, at the State Agrarian University of Armenia a conference entitled “The Role of Science and Scientific Institutions in the Development of the Veterinary Sector” was organized. On the next 26th of April, at “Elite Plaza” Business Center the international conference entitled “Veterinary for Healthy Society” was held.

The conference aimed to highlight the role of the veterinary and veterinary profession as a guarantee of a healthy society.

 

The second steering committee meeting of the project “Livestock Development in Armenia: South –North” took place

The second Steering Committee meeting of the project “Livestock Development in Armenia: South –North” took place on 25th of April, 2019 in the Shirak Regional Government Office.

The Project is implemented by the “Strategic Development Agency” (SDA) NGO and is financed by the Austrian Development Agency the operational unit of Austrian Development Cooperation, and Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.

The Project targets over 100,000 households involved in cattle breeding, actors of milk and meat value chains and local self- governing bodies of 100 rural settlements of Shirak, Lori, Tavush and Gegharkunik marzes.

The aim of the event was to present the areas of the implemented project interventions and to discuss the results with stakeholders.

Representatives from RA Minisrty of Agriculture, RA Ministry of Territorial Administration and Development, representatives from Lori, Shirak, Gegharkunik and Tavush Regional Government Offices, and representatives from donor organizations and other relevant bodies took part in the event.
